The Victorian Office

5 months

Duration:

Date Completed:

April, 2026

"The Victorian Office" is a 3D level design project made for Portfolio Development at UCF. The project duration is 5 months, with completion slated for April 2026.

Week 1: Research

For the first week of this assignment, I researched ways to implement a subtle smoke effect in the office using the Niagara particle system. I also searched on Fab Marketplace for ample assets to use for implementation within the level.

Week 2: Greyboxing and The Start of Asset Implementation

This week consisted of work within the engine to blockout the general space. This step helped me understand the context of the world I wanted to create, the limitations of the assets, and the "holes" within the final vision that needed to be addressed. Such "holes" as hinge-less doors, trim-less walls, and a lack of realism for window sizing and asset scaling were patched throughout this step of the process.

Week 3: Denser Population, Application of Wall Textures

Moving into Week 3, I focused on population and the soundness of design (scale, plausibility, etc.) in order to make the space feel like it's coming alive. This step helped me recognize the design flaws with the assets and materials I had available for free through Fab Marketplace, and I was able to make informed design decisions based off of these limitations.

Week 4: Population Pass, Texturing, and Post-Processing Test

For week 4, I focused on finishing up the space's population, texturing everything to near-completion, and testing post-processing. I realized the lighting looked off because I hadn't converted the BSP objects to static meshes to work better with the dynamic lighting system. Next week, that's my goal!

Week 5: Final Population, Texturing, and Post-Processing!

Finally, for week 5, I focused on finishing population, texturing, and post-processing. While I couldn't accomplish all I set out to do on this project, I was extraordinarily impressed by the space's population and the lighting solutions from where it all began.
